IBADAN, YORUBALAND — The Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba (D.R.Y.), under the leadership of Provisional President His Excellency Prof. Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore, has officially announced the “One Million Yoruba Freedom March.” The massive, peaceful mobilization is scheduled to take place in the coming months and marks the next critical phase in the Republic’s transition from a provisional administration to a fully functioning sovereign government.
The primary objective of the historic march is the peaceful reclamation of the national secretariat. By physically occupying the administrative headquarters, the Provisional Government intends to formally resume full executive, legislative, and administrative duties, transitioning the apparatus of the state from a provisional status to active, on-the-ground governance.
“This is not a protest; it is the physical assumption of our sovereign duties,” stated H.E. Prof. Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore, Provisional President of the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba. “For thousands of years, from the ancient civilization of Ile-Ife to the administrative successes of the Western Region, the Yoruba people have demonstrated an unparalleled capacity for self-governance. The One Million Freedom March is the peaceful, organized, and lawful resumption of our national duties. We are returning to our secretariat to govern.”

A Milestone in a Continuous Historical Journey The Democratic Republic of the Yoruba formally declared its sovereignty on November 20, 2022, citing the inalienable right to self-determination and the historical continuity of the Yoruba nation. This declaration was institutionalized on April 12, 2024, with the official inauguration of the Provisional Government.
The Republic’s claim to statehood is rooted in the declaratory theory of international law, specifically referencing the criteria set forth in the Montevideo Convention. The D.R.Y. asserts that it possesses a permanent population, a defined ancestral homeland, a distinct and ancient culture, and a functioning government capable of entering into relations with other states.
Call for Peaceful Civic Participation and Global Solidarity The Provisional Government is calling upon all Indigenous Yoruba people, both within the ancestral homeland and across the global diaspora, to prepare for the march. Organizers emphasize that the event will be strictly peaceful, disciplined, and focused on civic duty.
The D.R.Y. Ministry of Diaspora Affairs has launched a comprehensive registration and coordination portal to manage logistics, transportation, and state-level mobilization. The global Yoruba diaspora is also being mobilized to provide international advocacy, logistical support, and economic backing as the Republic assumes full administrative control.
“We call upon the international community, foreign correspondents, and global observers to witness this historic transition,” added a spokesperson for the Provisional Government. “The Democratic Republic of the Yoruba is committed to peaceful engagement, regional stability, and the establishment of diplomatic relations based on mutual respect and international law.”
Media Invitation and Press Credentials The Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba formally invites international journalists, news agencies, and foreign correspondents to cover the One Million Yoruba Freedom March. Press accreditation, media briefings, and designated viewing areas will be coordinated by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Journalists wishing to cover the event or request an interview with H.E. Prof. Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore or senior government officials are urged to contact the Press Office immediately.
